Girls volleyball takes victory against Prospect
This past Thursday Oct. 16, the girls volleyball team defeated the Prospect Knights in an intense match that went to three games. The girls lost the first set, came back to win the second and finished the third 28-26.
With only a couple of games left this season, the girls are looking for a strong finish. Right now they have a record of 7-3 in their conference. They have a cross-over game against Fremd at home on Tuesday Oct. 21.
One of the team’s captains, senior Marie Georgoulis, has been the varsity starting setter for the past three years. Georgoulis’ serving and sets were key components in the victory.
This year’s roster boasts an abundance of seniors. Next year it may be difficult to fill the holes they are going to leave come graduation. There are strong underclassmen, including sophomore Kiarra Akiyoshi, who are ready to step up to the challenge. Akiyoshi is the team’s libero whose defensive skills are a huge asset to the team.
As of now, both junior Dana Stutzman and senior Maddi Morini are out for the season due to injuries.
The team has shown improvements from last year and will continue the hard work for their remaining games.
“This season we have been faced with a lot of injuries and obstacles to overcome,” senior Alicia Kantor said. “But in the last few weeks we have become closer and better as a team and I think it has been because of all the girls working together.”
