This season, the Orchesis and Dance Team at Buffalo Grove High School have been increasingly successful. They took a risk of reviving the Dance Team program. New coaches, new curriculum, and new athletes. There was uncertainty on how the season would proceed, but they worked hard to achieve their accomplishments. The Buffalo Grove Orchesis Team consists of 32 talented girls who all share their love of dance. The team performs at multiple different events throughout the year. Orchesis’ debut for the year was at the Homecoming football game, during halftime. They performed a jazz and hip hop routine, never failing their consistent precedent of choreography, costuming, and overall entertainment! Their following performance was held at Prospect High School for the Artists in Residence (AIR) Show. The Orchesis programs of D214 come together to unite in their love for learning more about dance. The style of the dance varies each year.
This year, they performed a musical theater piece inspired by the Broadway play Six. It was sure a crowd favorite with upbeat songs, strong showmanship, and a beautiful storyline. Their annual show in February is coming up where they showcase all different styles of dance. Contemporary, jazz, hiphop, lyrical, and tap. Each dance is unique with its own story. The show this year is entitled, “Captivate” and it will surely live up to that name! Make sure to not miss the show this year. February 20, 21, and 22 at 7pm. The Buffalo Grove Dance Team has changed its whole program this year. This year, the varsity team competed two routines, a hip hop and a contemporary. The Junior Varsity team competed a pom dance. The Varsity team went to 6 competitions: Deerfield, Crystal Lake Central, Sycamore, MSL, Grayslake Central, Libertyville Sectionals, and IHSA State Finals. The Varsity Hip Hop team achieved tremendous success by receiving 1st place at the Crystal Lake Central and Sycamore competitions. JV received 3rd at Deerfield, 2nd at Grayslake Central, 2nd at Sycamore, and 10th at the JV Championship.
The Varsity team accomplished their goal of going to State Finals. They received 19th place in the 2A category, competing against 30 other schools. The dancer’s hard work on and off the dance floor paid off and their expectations were greatly exceeded. As a goal to “embrace the journey”, this team is sure striving to make that come true. It takes countless hours and many sacrifices to accomplish what this team does. This team has an unbreakable bond which only strengthens over time. “Although we all have varying personalities, there’s no denying that we all can agree on one thing, our love for dance” (Isabella Cuffaro, Junior). Congratulations BG Dance Team!
