The One Grove Gallery is a unique exhibition that Buffalo Grove High School hosts frequently. If you’ve never heard of the One Grove Gallery, you’ve likely seen it. When entering the lunchroom, you’ll find a door next to the theater that leads to an art exhibition showcasing the impressive work of the school’s art classes and clubs. This October, the One Grove Gallery was brimming with clown-themed art, captivating the attention of the entire school.
To gain further insight into the One Grove Gallery, I interviewed Ms. Oversmith. When I inquired about how she generates ideas for the gallery’s themes, she explained, “Our gallery gathers ideas in several ways. Teachers bring ideas that the art department might expand by collaborating with other departments or clubs.” This collaborative process requires significant effort but ultimately brings together individuals who might not otherwise have the opportunity to work together.
Some of my favorite One Grove Gallery exhibitions include “Coulrophobia,” featuring a collection of unsettling clown dolls. Other notable exhibitions include “Recess,” entirely composed of tied and ripped-up t-shirts, “Zero Emission,” showcasing art pieces inspired by bicycles, and “Día de los Muertos,” a vibrant celebration of the Day of the Dead. The diversity of these exhibitions ensures that each One Grove Gallery offers unique and unexpected experiences.
I also sought Ms. Oversmith’s perspective on the goals of the One Grove Gallery. She responded, “Our gallery team is currently small, and it would be wonderful to grow with more student involvement. I’m eager to keep collaborating with other clubs and teachers to integrate the gallery and the arts more fully into their curricula.” This approach emphasizes the importance of student engagement and the integration of art into various academic disciplines.
The One Grove Gallery serves as an excellent platform to connect diverse individuals while fostering an appreciation for the arts. The next time you’re walking through the halls, I encourage you to explore the captivating exhibits within the One Grove Gallery.
