BG boys basketball falls to Hersey in close rival match-up

@BGHSbball

The varsity boys basketball team enjoys one of their many team dinners in the community room at BG.

The energy in the Bison Gym was at an all time high with a packed home crowd when the Hersey Huskies came in for their Thursday Night hoops match up. BG lost to Hersey earlier in the year by five 37 to 32 at Hersey. The Bison have struggled this season going eight and fourteen and are fourth in conference.

The Team has lost very valuable players such as Kam Kraft who now plays for Xavier University a D1 school in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Bison also lost talented guard Steph Harris who now plays for the Skills Factory, a JUCO program. Knowing the Bison have lost key scorers in the past few years, this was a game that the Bison wanted to win at home against a rival. The Huskies on the other hand have had a very strong year in the MSL East. As they have a current record of fourteen and nine and are third in conference.

 Although the Bison had a high level of confidence this unfortunately was not enough to pull out the win. The Bison’s star score junior guard Connor Woodin had twelve points to lead the bison and went 3/6 from the 3 point line. Luke Anam-Ndu had a good game as well, having ten points and going 4/5 from the free throw line. On the other hand although these two players for the Bison combined for 22 points they still lost 53 to 45. This could be the result of the Hersey roster being stacked with talent whereas the Bison appear to be in more of a transition year with the roster. Hersey has many players who can drive the ball and score from the 3 point stripe.

The leading scorer for Hersey was Max Menninga who had twenty two points and went 2/4 from the three point arch. He also went 6/9 from the free throw line. Menninga had 8 rebounds as well. Jackson Hupp also was a key contributor with nine points and five rebounds. Although it was a close game through the first three quarters, the Huskies pulled away at the end and won by eight points. The Bisons next big match up is at 7:30 PM at home versus Elk Grove, another MSL East Conference rival.
