Jams with Julia: Selena Gomez “Rare”
Selena Gomez was born in 1992 and began acting in 2002 on the PBS children’s show “Barney & Friends.” She began her music career on Disney singing the theme song for “Wizards of Waverly Place,” in which she also starred and played the character Alex Russo. Gomez also branched out of music and has performed in movies such as “Another Cinderella Story,” “Monte Carlo” and “Hotel Transylvania”.
In 2015 Gomez revealed she had lupus, and in 2017, she got a kidney transplant. Lupus can cause a person to have low energy, arthritis, cardiovascular problems and kidney failure.
In 2009, she released her first album that was called “Kiss & Tell,” and in 2015 she came out with her second album called “Revival”. Her most recent album was in 2020 called “Rare.” Gomez also released throughout her music career one compilation album, two extended plays, twenty-eight singles —including seven as a featured artist and three promotional singles. She recently released a new song with K-Pop group “Blackpink” called “Ice cream” on Aug. 28.
Gomez’s most recent album, “Rare,” features 17 songs about self-empowerment and self-love.
In an interview with Apple, Gomez stated that “from ‘Rare’ she wants to make people know that they are unique and perfectly fine within who they are.”
In the song “Rare,” Gomez sings, “Baby, you’ve been so distant from me lately, and lately don’t even want to call you ‘baby.'” This means that you know the relationship is ending. In the chorus, Gomez sings, “Why don’t you recognize I’m so rare?” This tells the listeners that she is worth so much more than to stay in a relationship where she is unhappy.
Gomez also announced her new cosmetic line “Rare Beauty,” that launched on Sept. 3 at Sephora and on RareBeauty.com.
“I’ve had so much fun creating everything and can’t wait for y’all to try it all! I hope you love it as much as I do!” Gomez wrote in an Instagram caption.
On Rare Beauty’s website they mention their mission is to help everyone’s individuality by redefining what beautiful means.
According to Rare Beauty’s Website, “Our vision is to create a safe, welcoming space in beauty—and beyond—that supports mental well-being across age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, cultural background, physical or mental ability and perspective.”
So far Selena Gomez has done lots of things and she’s only 28, including music, acting and recently launching her new makeup line. I’m very excited to see what she has in store for us next.
