Side by side: wearing jeans like me

Ariana: Levi my jeans alone, they mean no harm

Don’t get me wrong, I too love the feeling of coming home from a long day of school and throwing on a pair of sweatpants. However, as much as I admire my elastic-loving friends, they will never compare to the way a pair of jeans makes me feel. As corny as it sounds, what you wear does affect your self esteem. It’s insanely hard waking up every single morning at six am knowing you will have to face yet another stressful day. So, we must make the little things count, starting with the way we get dressed

Even if you don’t want to admit it, any time you have attempted to dress a little nicer than usual for school, you have felt brand new. You feel confident, you feel like you can conquer anything. Jeans are the perfect way to get that confidence while also staying casual. A common reason why people give up on jeans is because they don’t try hard enough to find their perfect fit. So to an extent, I agree with you, jeans can be insanely uncomfortable.

However, often times, they only feel that way because one hasn’t found the right pair. A great tip is to go into a department store such as Nordstrom, or Macy’s and ask a sales associate to help you try on different styles and sizes. That way, you don’t have to commit to purchasing any items, without knowing your body type. Every pair of legs deserves to be shown off no matter the trouble.

There’s something about a pair of jeans that instantly makes one feel confident. They have a simplicity to them, that says I-look-wonderful-but-you-already-knew-that. Sweatpants keep you warm and cozy, I’ll give you that, but they will never exude the confidence you want to feel. Another great thing is that jeans will go with anything. Whether you choose a band tee, a sweatshirt or a snuggly sweater, jeans are always there to accent your look, without overshadowing it.

Always remember you do not have to give up comfort when it comes to looking your best. You can wear those new American Eagle jeans with a hoodie and some converse and call it a day. It’s changing the little things that can instantly boost your self esteem. So, I challenge you to take the time to find that one pair that fits you like a glove and makes you see why jeans have never gone out of style. Thanks Levi Strauss, I will take it from here.

Payton: Levi-ing my jeans in the closet, where they belong

I’ll be the first to admit it, I am a lazy dresser. Unless I plan out my ensemble the day before, I’ll end up throwing on a pair of sweats and a ratty old t-shirt and call it a day. After four years of this method, I’m still feeling pretty comfortable in my daily routine.

Jeans truly have no impact on how confident I feel during the day. I’m not saying, sweatpants forever and nothing else; I can appreciate a good pair of jeans. However, I value my comfort level over appearance. I may feel confident and attractive when I first slide on a pair of jeans, but by the end of the day I usually find myself feeling itchy, uncomfortable and desperately missing my yogas.

That being said, if there’s a nicer occasion at school (I.e a presentation, or event, etc.) I’ll consider slipping on a pair of jeans. Most times I’ll proceed with yogas or leggings but at least the possibility of jeans does cross my mind. The biggest piece of getting ready for a long, tedious school day should always be comfort over appearance. I have found that the more effort I put into my appearance, the less productive I am during the day. This can be seen whether I’m running late to school after changing outfits three times or how I tend to fidget with the belt on my jeans throughout  the school day. Jeans are more a distraction than anything else. In fact,

I hate having to squeeze into a pair of tight skinny jeans or fearing that my comfy pair look too much like “mom jeans”.Who wants to feel like their lower half of their body is numb due to lack of circulation from the inevitable discomfort of jeans?

Nor is my confidence level dependent on how I look during the school day; it’s how much confidence I have in myself. A pair of jeans will not affect my self esteem or magically make a bad day better. So sorry jeans, you’ll be stuck in the closet for yet another season. Better luck next year.
