The room is silent. The lights shut off, only leaving a single spotlight on the catwalk. The swift sound of a floor length gown hits the runway. The model steps out in something magical, something nobody in the room can comprehend. We remember what it’s like to breathe again, and the entire room is in shock and awe. It is that time of the year again. A time where the latest spring fashions are displayed in the number one fashion capital in the entire world: London. Here is a list of four different shows that wowed us on the catwalk this Fall.

Burberry: With British singer Alison Moyet performing live in the center of the catwalk, the Burberry show gave a romantic, vivacious vibe to its spring pieces. Christopher Bailey, the current designer of Burberry, gave a different spin to the classic trench coat by adding intricate lace coats to the collection. Moreover, the Burberry show featured black peekaboo fabrics layered over long, draped midi dresses. The show balanced feminine pieces with more modern, constructive pieces to surprise and entice the audience.

Topshop Unique: With a more youthful, hip collection, Topshop played around with mixed printing and formal jackets this spring. During the show, many models appeared in fiercely printed pants or dresses with either polka dots or brightly bundled flowers. To juxtapose with this bold trend, Topshop paired many of the fun, oversized pieces with form-fitting blazers and cinched belts. Many of the outfits were topped off with pointed heels that featured playful bow ties at the ankle. This show gave a “I-am-not-trying-so-hard-yet-I-still-am” kind of vibe to Topshop lovers everywhere.

Margaret Howell: Howell’s design style is clean, cut and simple. The outfits styled this year were laid back, yet still gave a more sophisticated tone. Models wore many “I-stole-this-from-my -boyfriend” blouses that were free-flowing and breathable. However, the show also took a turn with high waisted straight leg pants and cropped bustier tops that showed a little bit more of a playful side to Howell’s line. The entire show contained of white and black fabrics, to preserve the coolness and sophistication of the British woman.

Amanda Wakeley: A show made of up entirely white fabrics, Wakeley’s line was the epitome of London chic. Geared towards the more conservative shopper, this line consisted of elegant ensembles that were form fitting but still relaxed at the seams. There was a strong pattern of high draped necklines and oversized belt usage throughout the collection. The looks were paired with chic cat eye sunglasses and classic sun hats to pull the entire look together. 

Whether you are a fashion lover or not, it’s hard not to appreciate the hard work these designers put into each individual show. London Fashion Week is not a series of fashion shows, it is a showcase of the dedication and art form of the world of fashion.
