Five ways to deal with the stress in your life
Stress is everywhere. It’s in our social lives, our personal lives and our academic lives. Even though stress may be there it is important to manage your stress so that you do not end up feeling overwhelmed at the end of the day.
- Plan out your activities.
Whether it’s on the weekends or at the beginning of your day, it’s important that you have an idea of what you are doing and when you are going to do it. If you go into your day without an idea of when you are going to do something, it will leave you feeling confused and frustrated. Not only this but you could forget to complete your task altogether. Try oraganizing in a planner what activities you need to do and estimate how long it will take you to do the tasks. After you have done this, you can see where you have time to do your tasks and can complete your tasks in a timely manner.
- Walk away from your task.
In the midst of working on your homework, thinking about how much you have can make you feel the pressure. Instead of not doing your homework at all you can try doing it little-by-little with short break strategically placed. This allows you to relax for a short period of time while still getting your work done.
- Talk to someone you trust.
Constantly working and keeping your head in the books can drain your mental focus and cause you to lose your creativity. This can add an extra factor that makes it even harder to complete your task. When you are feeling low on creativity or energy talking to someone you trust can help recharge those think tanks. While working on your homework or chores, try to take a 15 minute break and catch up with a trustworthy friend; clearing your mind could help you wipe the slate and finish off your last tasks.
- Take a nap.
While powering through your work, it’s possible to lose track of time. you are powerhousing through your work you tend to lose track of time. This can include skipping out on much needed sleep. Having a rested mind can help you complete your work more efficiently. If you are running on less than four hours of sleep it can be difficult to think clearly. When doing your work try to keep an eye on the time so that you don’t end up pulling an all nighter; it’s important to finish your work, but it’s more important to take care of yourself.
- Channel your energy.
When you are frustrated you have energy stored within you. Instead of trying to defuse that negative energy, try converting it into a positive energy that you can redirect into your task at hand. Finding a way to repurpose this energy could be just the push you may need to finish that last math problem or wrap up your final essay. After you finish off your tasks, your stress is gone and you are able to start the process of relaxation.
